7 Strengths

The Strength-based model by Rapp & Goscha (2011) has seven life domains including wellness/health, leisure/recreational, and spirituality/ culture.

  1. Home/ Daily living

  2. Assets – financial/ insurance

  3. Employment/ education/ specialised knowledge

  4. Supportive relationships

  5. Wellness/ health

  6. Leisure/ recreational

  7. Spirituality/ culture

Originally not included in the model and first edition, spirituality/culture was “added primarily at the insistence of people in recovery who consistently stated the importance of spirituality and cultural factors in relation to their recovery journey (Rapp & Goscha, 2011, p. 103).”

For Rapp and Goscha, spirituality is “any set of beliefs and/or practices that give a person a sense of hope, comfort, meaning, purpose in their life, or a connection to a greater universe (Rapp & Goscha, 2011, p. 276).”
